Sawmill Day and car show this weekend

This past weekend we had the Blackcat Reunion at Lake Stone. I got to see several old friends that I haven't seen in many years, and some that I see almost daily. This is a great opportunity to see some friends you went to school with that you may not have seen in several years.

I've been to a few of the reunions now and it seems that almost that each year I get to see different friends that for some reason wasn't able to make it the previous year or years. If you like good food that is another reason to come to the reunion, there is always plenty of good food.

This year we had fish that was cooked on site, and people brought several covered dishes, so you had a pretty good variety of food to eat. The reunion is held the last Saturday of April each year, so if you are in the area during that time or can make arrangements to be in the area I'm sure it would be worth you time to come by and enjoy some good food and fellowship. No invitations are sent out to anyone but everyone is invited to come, so you might want to mark this date on your calendar next year. Next year's date will be April 25, 2020. So if possible come on by, I believe you will be glad you did.

The big day for the Alger Sullivan Historical Society is coming up May 4th. The annual Sawmill Day and Car Show there is no charge to get in. A lot of hard work goes into making Sawmill Day a great success. This is a day long event from 8:30 AM until around 4 PM. Sawmill Day features good day long entertainment, free history museum tours, great food is available at several vendors, along with arts and crafts goods of all kinds. There are heritage exhibits and contest and prizes.

The car show awards usually start right at 3 PM. If you are in the Century area on May 4th between 8:30 AM and 4 PM drop in and visit us, especially if you are a fan of old cars, they usually have a pretty good selection of really great looking vehicles, and there is a good chance you might see someone that knows you.

Don't forget, the entertainment and museum tours are all free. Whether you have been to Sawmill Day or not before doesn't matter, each year is different, with different vendors and entertainment.

The Alger Sullivan Historical Society meets the third Tuesday of each month at 6 PM at the Leach House Museum on the corner of Fourth and Jefferson in Century. Our next meeting will be on May 21, though out the year we have several interesting guest speakers, you are always welcome to come to our meetings and become a member of the Historical Society.
