Lee Bain, 81, died Tuesday April 30, 2019 at Crowne Healthcare in Mobile.
Mr. Bain Was born Nov. 30, 1937, in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Serving in the U.S. Air Force as a flight medic, he then graduated from the University of Alabama with a commercial arts degree and went on to receive a Master's degree in Art Education from Troy State University. Afterwards, he moved to Brewton when he received a grant from the National Endowment of Arts and the Alabama State Council of Arts and Humanities. Hired as the first art teacher for T.R. Miller High School, and teaching intermediate and college classes later in his career, his works included watercolors, silkscreen prints, woodcuts, oils and etchings and paintings on handmade paper. He initiated the first local art festival in Brewton, provided public exhibitions and taught workshops to expose others to a variety of mediums.
The funeral was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 3, at Union Cemetery with Rev. Bobby Ellisor officiating. Burial followed with Craver's Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Bain is survived by one daughter, Leslie (Fran) Haas; and one grandchild.
Mr. Bain was preceded in death by his wife, Beth Parker Bain.
