James E. “Jimmy” Dukes, Jr., 72, of Daphne, Ala., died Sunday, May 19, 2019.
Mr. Dukes was born Aug. 8, 1946 to James E., Sr. and Virginia Sparks Dukes in Selma, Ala. He attended Auburn University and served in the Army National Guard, and owned and operated Good Works Construction Company for more than 39 years. He served as a pastor for Judson Baptist Church for more than 27 years and was currently the pastor at Spanish Trail Baptist Church.
The funeral was held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 24, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bros. Don Davis and Otis Thames officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery with Johnson Quimby Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Dukes is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rheada Luker Dukes of Daphne; one son, Jed (Cathy) Dukes of Atmore; two daughters, Tara Brooks (Joe Lewis) and Shelley LaFever, both of Daphne; one brother, Frank (Theresa) Dukes of Opelika, Ala.; two sisters, Marty (Lucy) Weaver of Booneville and Sissy (Greer) Horton of Brewton, Ala.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Dukes was preceded in death by his parents.
