Council hires town clerk

Jamie Young was promoted from billing clerk to town clerk Monday night by the Flomaton Town Council and Bianca James was hired to fill Young's place in the front office.

The council voted 4-0-1 for the new hires to fill the vacancy created when Town Clerk Shila Carter resigned to take another position.

Councilman Buster Crapps abstained with his vote, noting he was not involved in the interview process.

“I'm not involved with the employees,” Crapps said.

He said his job was to look out for the employees' jobs and benefits, noting the mayor is over the employees and the council is over the money.

In other business Monday, Utilities Superintendent Shaun Moye said the town needed to adopt an ordinance to address garbage and trash pickup.

He said the town needed an ordinance to spell out what the trash truck would and would not pickup. He also said the town needs to make it clear in an ordinance that if someone lives within the town limits they are required to have garbage service.

The council agreed to have an ordinance prepared for the next meeting in July.

Councilwoman Lillian Dean also questioned the installation of speed humps on Martin Luther King Drive saying she was not informed.

She asked the council to have the humps removed and moved closer to the stop signs, noting people will have stop.
