Flomaton kicks off Fourth of July fun

Fireworks in Flomaton July 3; full days July 4 in Jay, East Brewton; Poarch shooting fireworks July 4 and Jay returns July 5

This year's Independence Day festivities will begin in Flomaton at dark on Wednesday, July 3, continue through July 4, and finish up with a fireworks show the evening of Friday, July 5, in the town of Jay.

Poarch

In Poarch, the Wind Creek casino will hold a fireworks display at 9 p.m., Thursday, July 4, on Highway 21, with plenty of parking available in the parking lot. For more information, contact 251-368-9136.

East Brewton

The city of East Brewton will kickoff its Fourth of July at 9 a.m. July 4 with its annual spades tournament at the civic center. Bingo will begin at 1 p.m.

The horseshoe tournament and water slide will kickoff the afternoon activities at 4 p.m. at the park across from Piggly Wiggly.

Entertainment featuring Lois Crenshaw, Melissa Cosey, Wanda Green/Yvone Lisenby, Tonya Graves and the High Horse Band will begin about 5 p.m. and continue until 9:30 p.m. just before the fireworks show.

The annual duck race down Murder Creek will be held at 6 p.m. Plastic ducks can be purchased for $5 each at city hall or up until 5 p.m. at the park on July 4. The first place duck owner wins $300, second place receives $200, followed by third place at $100 and $50 for fourth place.

Flomaton

The town of Flomaton will hold a fireworks display at about 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, at Hurricane Park. Residents are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and enjoy the show.

Jay

At 8 a.m., Thursday, July 4, the Celebrate Freedom 5K will be held at Bray-Hendricks Park located at 5259 Booker Lane in Jay. Runners can register beginning at 6:30 a.m.

Then at 10 a.m., the Cornerstone Youth Kickball Tournament will begin at Bray-Hendricks Park.

At 9 p.m., Friday, July 5th there will be fireworks will be held at Bray-Hendricks Park.
