While the details can’t be announced at this time, South Alabama Gas District’s (SAG’s) board agreed Monday to allow the district’s Chief Executive Officer Mark Burgess to pursue a deal that could produce additional revenue for the district.
During the board’s July meeting in Evergreen, Burgess said the project, if it happens, would be very beneficial to all the concerned parties. He said additional information would be available at a later date.
On another matter, Burgess said the state’s project to four-lane U.S. Highway 84 from Interstate 65 in Evergreen to the city’s airport is progressing.
He said the state approved SAG’s proposal to relocate its natural gas pipeline. SAG will relocate the pipeline and the state will reimburse SAG the cost for the project.
“I don’t know when the four-lane’s construction will start, but it looks like it is going to happen,” said Burgess.
Burgess added that the revenues made up some ground in May. He said the district revenues are 7 percent higher than they were after the mild winter of 2017.
“When you compare this year to 2017 when we had the propane division, we’re doing really well,” said Burgess.
He added that the district employees are continuing to do routine maintenance and to install a “handful” of new services.
Burgess told board member Jenny Countryman, Excel’s mayor, that a main gas line will be installed along Sawyer Drive in Excel as soon as possible.
He also said the August board meeting will be held Aug. 5 in Monroeville at City Hall at 6 p.m.
