A Jay man and his passenger are facing felony drug charges following a traffic stop August 30 that resulted in the discovery of methamphetamine and other drug charges in the vehicle.
Kevin Scott Rentz, 55, 14363 Highway 89, and his passenger, Margaret Ard, were traveling north on Regency Drive in Pace and failed to stop behind the stop bar at the intersection of Williams Road, according to a Santa Rosa County Sheriff's report.
When an officer made contact with Rentz, both he and passenger Ard provided the officer with their Florida drivers licenses.
The officer conducted a warrant and driver license check which gave negative results, the report said.
A K-9 unit arrived on scene and did alert on the vehicle, according to the report. A search of Rentz' wallet revealed less than a gram of methamphetamine.
When officers searched Ard's purse, they found 3.2 grams of methamphetamine, a small bag containing 5 Alprazolam .25 mg and 9 Hydrocodone 325 mg/10 mg, the report said. A further search of her purse located a black digitz scale with residue.
Ard was arrested and did not wish to speak to officers. Rentz was arrested and told officers Ard asked him to take her to a friend's house and he was unaware of the small amount of methamphetamine found in his wallet, the report stated.
When police searched Rentz, they found a glass meth pipe in his right boot, the report said.
Both Rentz and Ard were arrested and transported to the Santa Rosa County Jail.
Rentz was charged with one count felony possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia and given a bond of $1,500.
