Celebration set for Sat.

The Flomaton Lions Club will hold an 'Age 85 and Over Celebration' beginning at 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., this Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Flomaton Community Center on McCurdy Street.

The first celebration was held in 2018 for 90-year-olds and up, hosted by Delmer Tew and held at the Flomaton United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kathy McKinley and husband Mack of FUMC will be hosting this event also.

“What Delmer organized was a wonderful idea,” said Flomaton Lions Club president Wayne Key. “It was a success last year, with a full house of guests and their families. After Delmer had to move back to his hometown from Flomaton, we decided to carry on the tradition and celebrate those members of our community this year who are 85 and older, and hopefully each year from here on.”

There will be a hot meal served to guests 85 and older and family members. Live music and a chance to have their pictures made offer an experience and memories of the celebration.

The Flomaton High School Leos will help the Lions with parking, escorting and seating guests and kitchen assistance and food service.

Larry White with radio station WPFL 105.1 in Flomaton will be there broadcasting live, interviewing community members and guests.

Anyone who has a family member age 85 or older is invited to come share in the celebration. Gifts and door prizes will be given out.

“We're looking forward to having our guests come out and share their experience and local history this Saturday,” said Key. “It will sure be a treat for those who attend and their families, not to mention us Lions.”
