The Century Council voted Monday Sept. 16 approval for the wastewater treatment plant to pay for repairs to the town's effluent filters for $1,800.
Interim City manager Buz Eddy told the council the filters have been out of service for several years due to the controls being submerged in water and they need to be repaired or replaced and returned to service. The filters were installed in 2002 and 2007, Eddy said.
“This is a sole source type mechanical assessment by the manufacturer and until we know exactly what the manufacturer says needs to be fixed on these filters, we can't undertake the repairs.” said Eddy. “So we'd like to bring Aqua-Aerobic Systems in at a cost of $1,800 to tell us what needs to be done to get the effluent filters back on track. This needs to be fixed as quickly as possible.”
In a motion made by Councilman Luis Gomez and seconded by Councilwoman Sandra McMurray-Jackson, the motion carried unanimously. Councilman Ben Boutwell and Councilman James Smith were not present.
Audit services
The council also approved a one-year contract with Warren Averitt Accounting for auditing services, with an option to continue with two one-year extensions for the same price as the current year.
Eddy said he thought with the knowledge the company has after working with the town for the past three years, it was a good idea to get firm partner Kristen McAllister to do the work, starting Oct. 1, 2019 for the FY ending Sept. 30, 2019.
In a motion made by Councilman Jackson and seconded by Councilman Gomez, the motion carried.
