Ga. company eyeing land

The Flomaton Town Council is considering giving away land adjacent to the old concrete pipe plant on Highway 31 that includes a baseball practice field in hopes of luring a new business to that location which will employ 38 people.

Mayor Dewey Bondurant Jr., told council members Monday that a company out of Georgia is looking at opening a precast concrete plant on the site. The land, located behind the Tri-City Ledger building, was once donated to the town. The town later sold the land but kept several acres to the north along Highway 31 where the practice field was constructed.

Bondurant said the company is looking at Bay Minette and Flomaton for the plant, but said they needed more land that would include the practice field and 2 acres and asked the town to donate the land to them.

“They said they would pay to move the field,” Bondurant said.

Town Attorney Chuck Johns said before the town could give the land away there were steps that had to be taken that includes holding public hearings to show it's in the best interest of the town.

The council voted to proceed with the process to donate the land to lure the new plant.
