EB police jail three for meth, marijuana

A driver's license checkpoint and two traffic stops landed three people in jail on drug charges in East Brewton.

Ronald Keith Godbolt, 48, 268 Payne St., East Brewton, was arrested Nov. 3 and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana II, resisting arrest, fleeing and attempting to elude and tampering with evidence.

According to police reports, East Brewton Police Officer Charlie Land conducted a traffic stop on a Toyota with an expired tag. Land reported as he approached the passenger side of the vehicle he saw Godbolt doing something in the floorboard with his right hand. He reported once Godbolt realized he was at the passenger side he dropped what he had in his hand.

Land went to the driver's side of the vehicle and asked Godbolt to step out. He had Godbolt place his hands on the patrol car and patted him down. He reported feeling something in Godbolt's right pants pocket he believed to be some type of narcotics.

The report states Land asked Godbolt if there was anything illegal in his pockets and he said "No".

Godbolt then emptied his pockets and the officer saw a clear bag containing a green leafy material.

Land then told Godbolt he was under arrest and tried to place him in handcuffs and reported Godbolt began resisting by stripping the handcuffs from Land's hands.

Land stated Godbolt then grabbed the clear bag, ripped it open, threw it on the ground and began to run toward Dailey Street.

Officer Land pursued and reported when he got in range he deployed his taser and was able to place Godbolt into handcuffs.

Morrow arrested

Stephanie Lauren Morrow, 28, 5888 Dogwood Drive, Milton, was arrested Oct. 29 and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), unlawful possession of marijuana II and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to reports, Sgt. Paige Howell was on patrol when he witnessed a black truck fail to use a turn signal and initiated a traffic stop on Forrest Avenue.

Howell made contact with the driver, who identified herself as Candy Morrow. He advised her why he pulled her over and reported that she had left a residence on Roosevelt Street where he had been getting reports of narcotics being sold.

Howell asked for consent to search the vehicle and reported she refused. He reported his K-9 then alerted on the vehicle and Howell told the occupants to exit. A search revealed a black bag behind the passenger seat that contained meth, marijuana, digital scales and a glass pipe. The passenger, identified as Stephanie Morrow, claimed the drugs and she was placed under arrest.

License check

Kevin Scott Rentz, 55, 14363 Highway 89, Jay, was arrested Oct. 30 and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (meth) and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to reports, Officer Land was assisting the state police and the sheriff's office on a driver's license check on Highway 29 and Highway 41 South when he and a sheriff's deputy observed a red truck take a side road to avoid the checkpoint.

Land initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, later identified as Rentz. Land reported he did a computer check on Rentz's driver's license and found he had outstanding warrants for his arrest in Santa Rosa County involving drugs.

Land asked him if there was anything illegal inside the vehicle and reported Rentz said "No". Rentz then gave consent to search and Land reported finding a pipe in the driver's side floorboard and a small bag of meth between and driver's seat and the center console.

Rentz was placed under arrest and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center.
