Bobby Lee “Earl” Frye, 81, of Atmore, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019, at Sacred Heart-Covenant Hospital in Pensacola.
Mr. Frye was a native of Atmore who graduated from Escambia County Training School in 1957. He then graduated Wenonah State Community College in Birmingham and served four years in the U.S. Navy. With his brother, he established Frye Construction Co. and later with his wife established the Chick-a-Dee lounge and Frye Tire Link. He was known to many as a teacher, motivator, activist and mentor.
The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 16, at Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church with Rev. Willie Hawthorne officiating. Burial followed with military honors at Stallworth Cemetery with Turner Funeral Chapel directing.
Mr. Frye is survived by his wife, Ida Mary Frye of Atmore; two sons, Layton Earl (Karen) Frye of Mobile and John Earl (Hasana) Frye of Atmore; one daughter, Kimberly (William) Evans of Petersburg, Va.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces cousins and friends.
Mr. Frye was preceded in death by his parents, John Eddie (Rollie Mae) Frye; one brother, Benny Lee Frye; and one sister, Narvell Parker.
