Frank L. Scott, 91, of Brewton, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2019.
Mr. Scott was born July 14, 1928, to Franklin and Leila Scott, in Brewton, where he was a member of the 1946 T.R. Miller High School graduating class. Attending Birmingham Southern College and then graduating from Troy State University in 1952, he began his career as a pastor. For more than 43 years, he served Methodist churches as a pastor in the Alabama West Florida Conference in Andalusia, Ariton, Dothan, Camden, Evergreen, Blountstown (Fla.), Selma, Greenville, Montgomery, Prattville and Bay Minette. After retirement, he served as a retired supply pastor for seven years in Pollard. A Prayer Labyrinth at Blue Lake Methodist Camp and Retreat Center was built and named in his honor by the Brewton and Pollard congregations in 2012. Named Pastor Emeritus of the First United Methodist Church in Brewton in 2018, he held numerous conference positions, serving eight years on the Conference Board of Social Concerns and Conference Board of Missions and four years as chairperson of the Committee on Higher Education and Campus Ministry. He ministered to the African American community during the 60s and 70s Civil Rights Movement and served as president of the Greater Brewton Habitat for Humanity, where he helped build 19 Habitat houses.
A Celebration of Life was held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 28, at the Brewton First United Methodist Church. Burial followed at Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery with Craver's Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Scott is survived by one son, Jeff (Susan Ann) of Durham, N.C.; two daughters, Fran Scott of Nashville, Tenn. and Susan (John) Porch of Gainsville, Fla.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Ann Scott; and his parents.
