A McDavid woman who was operating a Nissan with no front bumper and a suspended license was arrested for meth after a search of the vehicle Jan. 8.
Britney Marie Brown, 33, was turning eastbound onto Berryhill Road from Glover Lane in a gold Nissan Altima with no front bumper when an officer got behind the vehicle and ran the license plate, according to a Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office report.
Dispatch advised the registered owner, Brown, had a suspended Florida driver's license. The officer matched the picture provided by dispatch to the vehicle's current driver and conducted a traffic stop, the report said.
The officer made contact with Brown, who provided a Florida identification card. When the officer asked Brown to exit the vehicle, she complied and stepped to the rear of her vehicle. The officer asked Brown if there was anything illegal in the vehicle, and Brown stated “no.”
Another officer approached the passenger aside of the vehicle and detected the slight odor of marijuana, the report said.
The officer asked Brown if there was recently marijuana in the vehicle to which Brown replied her husband had previously smoked marijuana in the vehicle. The officer asked if they smoked hemp to which Brown replied, “No, he only smoked marijuana,” the report stated.
A search of the vehicle revealed a CVS pill bottle containing a clear baggy with a white crystal like substance (meth) enclosed, two spoons, several needles, a rubber strap and cotton filter within an inner zipper pouch located in a blue purse. Brown claimed she had lent her purse out to a friend, the report said.
Brown was arrested and charged with one count felony possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, one count misdemeanor drug equipment possession and one count misdemeanor driving while license is suspended. She was transported to Santa Rosa County Jail and given a bond of $1,500.
