Junior pours in 21 against Royals Monday to get 1,000-plus points
Kaylie Davenport reached a milestone Monday night when she scored her 1,000th point as a member of the Flomaton High School girls basketball team in a 58-52 win over the visiting Jay Royals.
Davenport entered the game four points short and scored 21. Tuesday night she added 15 at Central High School in Flomaton's 47-32 victory. She now sits at 1,032 points scored.
Only a junior, Davenport will be back for a senior season next year.
Head coach Nathan Kent said Davenport has a talent for not only scoring points, but playing defense and working the offense as well. He saw that talent at an early age.
"She's been playing with me on the varsity since she was in the seventh grade," Kent said. "She didn't play that much but she continued to progress."
Kent said by time Davenport was a freshman she took over and started to grow into a leader of the team."
"She's taken over the leadership role for our team," Kent said. "She helps people around her become better players."
Kent wouldn't comment on how many points he felt Davenport would score by time she graduates next year, saying her goal is to win, regardless of the points she scores.
