Poll workers for the March 3 primary elections in Escambia County (Ala.) will receive $125 after the county commission voted Monday to add $25 to the $100 per poll worker that will be paid by the state of Alabama.
Prior to the 2018 election cycle, the commission voted to use local money to pay the additional $25 to poll workers. The commission also passed a resolution asking the local legislative delegation to introduce a bill to increase the pay for poll workers. No such bill was ever passed by the Legislature.
Under the current state law, the county is reimbursed the $100 it pays poll workers from the state, the additional $25 will come from local money.
Commissioners noted that on election day poll workers normally work about 15 hours and are required to attending training sessions before.
The commission unanimously voted to pay the additional $25 to poll workers for the 2020 election cycle.
