For the rest of this week and through next week, work will be done on the old bridge across the Conecuh River near Riverview with the bridge being briefly closed for all traffic.
According to information provided by Katelyn E. Turner, public information officer for the Alabama Department of Transportation, work began Monday for a joint removal and replacement operation. She said this is a more permanent solution to the work performed on the bridge last week.
This week, the northbound lane will be closed with traffic signals and flagmen being used to allow traffic to flow across the bridge in the southbound lane.
The work will continue Monday, March 16, with the bridge being briefly closed to all traffic to remove the plate from the bridge deck.
Turner said the bridge should only be closed for about 30 minutes Monday. The exact time is not set, but she said it should between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. to not interfere with school bus traffic.
The bridge will then reopen for one-lane traffic with flagmen on site to assist traffic through the work zone.
