Panic versus prudence

Adversity brings out the best and worst in people. Fortunately, Americans exude much more goodness in trying times than random acts of greed and malice. For every toilet paper hoarder attempting to profit from these illogical shortages, there are thousands of Americans reaching out to help their shut in neighbors. For every political hack trying to extort some pork from this crisis, there are thousands of businesses retooling to meet our urgent needs. And for every muckraking pseudo journalist promulgating paranoia, there are thousands of communities coming together to meet the challenges of this virulent virus head on.

The misers are annoying and the unscrupulous politicians are aggravating, but the outright purveyors of panic in the media are infuriating and downright dangerous. This Chinese virus is certainly a very real and very dangerous pandemic. It is still spreading and probably will for at least a few more weeks, but the extraordinary efforts of the Trump Administration and our individual states to reduce public contact and marshal resources will surely slow the spread. It will probably get worse before it gets better, but it will definitely get better.

Most Americans understand the severity and that sacrifices are required, but they steadfastly know we will ultimately prevail. Unless, you are watching CNN or MSNBC; then you are probably in hiding expecting the end of western civilization. The journalistic malpractice of the mainstream media particularly CNN and MSNBC are unconscionable and perhaps criminal. According to these pretenders in the press, nothing is being done to slow the spread, nothing is being done to gather resources, nothing is being done to get more testing, nothing is being done to develop a cure or a vaccine, and all of this is because Donald Trump is your president and he wants you dead anyway. So you might as well fire up a bong and watch the end of the world.

This is the trash that passes for news reporting. These charlatans are constantly trying to pit governors and his cabinet against Trump; and they persist in silly “gotcha” questions like “how many deaths are acceptable?” President Trump forcefully rebutted “none,” but that question particularly exposes the media’s sinister cynicism and morbid hatred. The media is almost gleeful reporting rising death tolls and a debilitating economic shut down because they want to blame Trump. But they have only derision for monumental efforts to combat this pandemic and its historic economic interruption because more than devastating death tolls and economic destruction, the media fears another Trump victory.

Sadly, the media is almost totally useless in this crisis. At best, they are counterproductive with their incessant misinformation about government efforts and too often they are despicable in their disinformation. President Trump had mentioned promising results from treatment with the anti-malarial drug chloroquine, but how did the media report that? They blamed Trump for the hapless person who died from ingesting fish tank cleaner because he saw chloroquine was an ingredient. Never mind the dozens who recovered with proper application of this drug.

Again, the media fears recovery more than catastrophe because it might accrue as a success to President Trump, so disregard all the sensationalized reporting. When we need independent reporting more than ever, they are absent, incompetent, or deceptive. Ironically, it’s governments bringing you the most accurate information. Whether President Trump and his imminently qualified team, your governors, or your local officials, they are all sincerely concerned and earnestly working to protect the people and save our nation.

While we are thankful for our elected officials, the real heroes are the healthcare workers risking their lives to treat the sick, the farmers and grocers still producing our necessities, the truckers getting these goods to us, and countless others doing the mundane tasks that keep this country running. There is certainly danger, but no reason to panic like the media. Our governments are acting aggressively with prudent measures, but most of all we are Americans! We have the determination and spirit to meet any challenge. Turn off the news and turn to your neighbors and see America rising! We shall overcome!

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9
