Town to have second giveaway beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday
The success of Saturday's food giveaway in Flomaton has prompted the town to do it again this Saturday and Mayor Dewey Bondurant, Jr., said he hopes to the program will continue another two weeks.
Bondurant said more than 300 boxes of food were given away during Saturday's drive-thru at the Flomaton Community Center.
With donations from the community, the town purchased a tractor-trailer full of food for $1,500 and volunteers were on hand to divide the food into boxes.
This week's giveaway will begin at 10 a.m. with the same guidelines as last week. Vehicles need to come down Ringold Street and turn left onto McCurdy Street. Street cones will divide traffic into two lanes into the parking lot at the community center. Vehicles pull up and the food will be placed in the vehicle.
"We gave out everything that was on the truck," Bondurant said. "I thought it went great. I recognized a lot of people from Flomaton coming through the line. Everybody was nice and polite and grateful we had the food."
Bondurant said as long as the donations keep coming in he hopes to provide the food during the COVID-19 pandemic.
People wishing to make a donation can make checks out to Town of Flomaton Food bank and either drop them off at the drive-up window at town hall or mail them to P.O. Box 632, Flomaton, Ala. 36441.
