Excel native Kerrigan Faith Welch has been selected as a team member for the this year’s All-Aabama Academic Team from Coastal Alabama Community College by Phi Theta Kappa, two-year college presidents, and community college state associations who co-sponsor All-State Academic Team recognition programs in 32 states.
Welch earned status as a Bronze Coca-Cola Scholar ($1000 scholarship), and Wilson earned status as a Gold Coco-Cola Scholar ($1500 scholarship). There are only 50 Bronze Scholars and 50 Gold Scholars in the nation.
Each two-year college in Alabama may nominate two students from each campus to the All-USA Academic Team. Nominations are based on outstanding academic performance and service to the college and community.
Welch is a student on Monroeville campus, has a 3.94 cumulative G.P.A., and is majoring in General Studies at Coastal Alabama. She plans to transfer to Auburn University at Montgomery and major in Special Education. In addition to her time as Vice President of Service in Phi Upsilon Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, Welch has served as an Eagle Student Ambassador, as a Student Government Association member, and as a Baptist Campus Ministries member and Mission Mobilizer.
All-Alabama Academic Team awards come with a $1000 scholarship each and a commemorative medal. Also under the same All-USA Academic Team umbrella is the Coca-Cola Scholar Competition. The Coca-Cola Academic Team recognizes high achieving college students who demonstrate academic excellence and intellectual rigor combined with leadership and service that extends their education beyond the classroom to benefit society.
