Allen “Doug” Douglas Pettis, 88, of Brewton, died Saturday, May 9, 2020, in a Century nursing facility following a brief illness.
Mr. Pettis was born April 29, 1932, to Solomon and Clara Morris Pettis, in Escambia County, Ala. A member of the Pleasant Home Holiness Church, he attended Wallace School and graduated from W.S. Neal High School. A retired millwright from Container Corporation with more than 40 years of service, she was a foundling member of the Wallace Volunteer Fire Department.
A graveside service was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 12, at Hanberry Cemetery with Rev. A.D. Hale and Rev. Gam Graves officiating. Burial followed with Williams Memorial Funeral Home of Brewton directing.
Mr. Pettis is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Hale Pettis of Brewton; two sons, Theron (Tammy) Pettis of Rutledge, Ala. and Adrian Pettis of Dothan, Ala.; one daughter, LaCresha (Kyle) Hayes of Brewton; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Pettis was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Leonard Pettis, Cleve Pettis, Howard Pettis, Coley Pettis and Claude Pettis; and two sisters, Essie Mae Chavers and Voncile Chavers.
