Jay man facing meth charge

A Jay man is facing a felony drug charge after a search Friday of the vehicle he was a passenger in.

Christopher Glen Davidson, 42, 6342 Highway 4, was the passenger along with a second passenger, Samantha Madden, in a vehicle driven by Oscar Powers, who was trespassing when he parked in the Jay Hospital parking lot, according to a Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office report.

Powers had been told several times not to loiter in the parking lot due to his drug activities and in January of 2020 had received a trespassing warning.

A deputy patrolling the area observed Powers' vehicle and made contact with Powers, who told the officer he “forgot” and didn't know that he “really wasn't supposed to be there,” the report said.

The officer confirmed with hospital staff that Powers was not welcome on the property and Powers was detained. A K9 officer arrived on scene and conducted a free air sniff of the vehicle, which indicated narcotics inside the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle revealed a cigarette pack in the back seat where Davidson had been sitting. The report noted Davidson was holding the cigarette pack in his lap when the deputy initially approached the vehicle.

Inside the cigarette pack a small amount of powder substance was located, along with a glass smoking pipe. Both tested positive for methamphetamine, the report said.

Davidson was arrested and charged with one count felony possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. Davidson was transported to the Santa Rosa County Jail, where he was given a $1,500 bond.
