Council incumbents start terms

The Flomaton Town Council approved four resolutions Monday afternoon to declare council members Charlie Reardon, Lillian Dean, Jim Johnson and Roger Adkinson as re-elected to new four-year terms after none of the incumbents received opposition for the Aug. 25 municipal elections.

Flomaton voters will go to the polls on Aug. 25 to elect a mayor and a council member from District 4.

Incumbent Mayor Dewey Bondurant, Jr., is being challenged by Chris Burnham and Kevin Knowles. Incumbent District 4 Councilman C.E. 'Buster' Crapps is being challenged by Adrienne Johnson and Kay Wagner.

Polls will be open at Flomaton Town Hall from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The council also voted Monday to approve Marie Morris, Karen Cash and Gracie Pridgeon as poll workers and William Reaves as the inspector.

Councilwoman Lillian Dean said Louella Carter, who was selected as a poll worker, informed her that she couldn't.

At the July 13, meeting the council had approved Kay Wagner to help Town Clerk Jamie Wilson with the upcoming municipal elections and named Nitisha Woods as the alternate. Since Wagner became a candidate for the District 4 council seat, Woods will fill that space to help Wilson.

Councilman Jim Johnson asked what the requirements would be on face masks and social distancing during the election.

Wilson said there will be a poll workers' training session Friday and those items will be covered.
