FPD taps chaplains for service

Flomaton Police Chief Chance Thompson has tapped Jonathan Hill, pastor of Little Escambia Baptist Church, Alvin Bethea, pastor of Flomaton Pentecostal Church, and Henry Hawkins, pastor of Damascus Baptist Church as the three chaplains for the police department and first responders.

Chief Thompson brought the idea of the chaplains to Mayor Dewey Bondurant, Jr., several months ago. The idea was presented to the council and approved. The only expense to the town will be to provide workman's comp insurance for the chaplains should they be injured on the job.

Thompson said he wanted three to cover three different districts in the town and to have one available should someone be out of town.

Thompsons said he worked with the a public safety consultant and Town Attorney Chuck Johns to establish the standards and procedures for the program.

He said the chaplains will assist on death notifications, crisis intervention, employee and citizen counseling upon consent and multiple other functions.

"This is going to be a great program for our community and officers," Thompson said. "God bless our town, country and citizens. I have the highest respect for these three gentlemen."
