Man jailed for attempted theft

Ellis accused of trying to steal pickup truck in Flomaton; meth charges added at the jail

A Flomaton man is facing multiple charges following the alleged attempt to steal a vehicle and additional charges were added when correctional officers at the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton found methamphetamine in his possession.

Jesse T. Ellis, 26, 4713 Atmore Road, was charged with attempted theft of property I, breaking and entering a vehicle, possession of burglary tools, criminal mischief I and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

District Judge Eric Coale set his bond at $50,000 with the stipulation he have no contact with the alleged victim in the attempted vehicle theft.

According to reports Ellis is accused of trying to steal a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was parked at the Texaco Station at the intersection of Highway 31 and Highway 29 in Flomaton on Feb. 23.

Flomaton Police Chief Chance Thompson said he viewed video from the store and identified Ellis as the suspect.

Thompson also noted the vehicle was parked at the Texaco after hours.

Court records note video shows Ellis breaking into the doors of the pickup truck using a street sign. Records also noted damage to the truck was in excess of $2,500.

Following his arrest on Feb. 25, Ellis was transported to the detention center in Brewton where he was arrested for possessing meth.
