Burkett faces trafficking and possession
An Atmore man was jailed on $1 million after agents executed a search warrant at his 21 Hodges Drive residence and seized about 3.3 pounds of marijuana, numerous weapons, $14,240 cash and unprescribed hydrocodone pills.
Jason Eric Burkett, 46, was charged with trafficking marijuana, unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks said officers with the Monroe County Drug Enforcement Task Force, Atmore Police Department and the Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff's Office executed the search warrant March 9 and Burkett was taken into custody.
Brooks said when officers arrived at the residence they discovered a marijuana operation that included growing equipment and supplies, scales, about 14 guns, cash and the hydrocodone pills.
According to court records the trafficking charge was enhanced due to the 'clandestine laboratory operation' at Burkett's residence was within 500 feet of a residence, place of business, church or school.
