Free to customers to keep up on the status

Alabama Power Co., has launched a new visual outage map that allows customers real-time access to power outages and estimated times of power restoration.

Sam Schjott, governmental and community relations manager for the power company, informed the Escambia County Commission Monday about the new feature that is free to customers by simply signing up.

Schjott said the program will show virtual maps of power outages throughout the state with the ability to zoom in to streets and neighborhoods.

Schjott also said customers can sign up to receive notices of power outages and the status of outages.

He added customers can go to outagemap.alabamapower.com to get started.

The real-time outages will updated outage information to a person's computer or telephone.

To get service on a cell phone, text “Enroll” to APCOUT (272688) using a cell phone registered to your Alabama Power account or visit AlabamaPower.com/Alerts.

Once enrolled customers can text APCOUT (271688) to report an outage or text “Status” to check repair status.
