A coach and teacher at Escambia County High School in Atmore who had a warrant for his arrest of having non-consensual sex with a student was killed in an Aug. 2 vehicle crash in Mobile when the suspect apparently made a U-turn into the path of an oncoming dump truck.

Kasuan Denetrius Bullard, 39, died in the 10:30 a.m. collision on the Chochrane Causeway.

Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff Heath Jackson said a warrant had been issued for Bullard's arrest charging him with rape I and a teacher having sex with a student under the age of 19.

Jackson said the investigation began on June 16, 2021, when deputies responded to Escambia County High School in reference to an allegation of a school employee having non-consensual sex with a student.

After interviews that involved the sheriff's department, the Alabama Department of Human Resources, the Escambia County Board of Education, the regional child advocacy center and the district attorney's office, a warrant was issued for Bullard's arrest.

Jackson said Bullard was contacted and was supposed to surrender to the sheriff's office on Aug. 2, but was killed in crash earlier that day.
