Accused of providing drugs to the juvenile before sexual assaults
An Atmore man is facing several felony charges including sexual assault of a minor and auto theft when he was arrested Nov. 11.
Sylvester Jones, 35, 101 Brown St., was later identified as the driver of a beige Chevrolet Tahoe that pulled up next to a female in an undisclosed location in Escambia County, Fla., between the ages of 12 and 18 around 8 p.m. Oct.3, according to an Escambia County (Fla.) Sheriff's office report.
The female told authorities Jones offered her a ride and he appeared to be high. She said she was offered 'weed' and 'ice,' later clarified as marijuana and methamphetamine. The victim said she accepted the drugs and then became high.
Jones identified himself as "Bow Wow" and "Money" to the victim. The report said he instructed her to get in the back seat and she complied, fearful of what may happen if she did not. She said she informed Jones of her age and Jones said he did not care that she was a minor, stating he was 29 years old, when records confirmed he was 35.
The victim told authorities Jones sexually assaulted her. Afterwards she said they made what she described as "drug runs" to multiple hotels and Circle K gas stations in Escambia County, Fla.
She said she was driven to where Jones stayed about 3 a.m., Oct. 4 and went inside although she did not know where she was. The report said Jones' girlfriend, "Melissa" got angry at Jones for bringing another female into the house and Melissa went to bed.
The victim said Jones gave her an ecstacy pill and instructed her to go into the bathroom and remove her clothes. She complied and Jones sexually assaulted her a second time, according to the report.
She told authorities Jones dropped her off at another house about 3:50 p.m. Oct. 4 after calling her friend on a cell phone she had borrowed from Jones' friend. She stated "Melissa" and Jones' friend were not aware she had been sexually battered by Jones.
A deputy conducted a master name query for the minor, which indicated she had been reported as a missing juvenile on Oct. 4. The deputy contacted the minor's guardian and informed her of her location, condition and the circumstances surrounding her recovery. The guardian stated she would like law enforcement to transport the victim to have a sexually battery kit completed.
The victim had taken a shower prior but the clothes she had been wearing were given to law enforcement. She was transported to Gulf Coast Kids House, where a mental evaluation and sexual battery kit was performed. The clothes she has been wearing were given also.
In a separate case, Jones was charged with grand theft auto for a gold 2006 Cadillac STS that was reported stolen on Oct. 14. Law enforcement responded to a report on Oct. 15 of a vehicle stolen from Plantation Road in Pensacola. Vehicle owner John Foshee told deputies he had purchased the vehicle but had not been able to transfer the title into his name, according to the report.
Foshee said he purchased the vehicle for $3,600 from Martha Dressel in Spanish Fort, Ala. and showed deputies the title. Foshee said he allowed Melissa Reid Myers to stay at his residence. He said he took Myers and her friend, "Bow Wow," to Gulf Breeze and returned around 6 p.m. and parked his vehicle in the garage. He said Myers and her friend packed up all of her belongings and the two left the residence.
The report stated Foshee woke up the next morning about 6 a.m. and noticed the vehicle was gone. Foshee told deputies she believed he had left the key fob in the vehicle. When he texted Myers to bring his vehicle back or he would call the police, there was no response. Foshee stated his vehicle is worth $3,600 and the missing key would cost $1,000 to replace. He told authorities that no one is authorized to take or be in his vehicle and he wished to press charges.
The Cadillac with Jones later identified driving was stopped by an officer who was responding to a trespassing call at the Oyo Hotel in Pensacola. The officer said Jones told him vehicle did not belong to him after he discovered Jones did not have a valid driver's license and that the tag on the vehicle was not assigned to it, the report said. The officer stated that he did observe Jones park the vehicle in front of a store nearby and get out of it. At the time of the stop, the vehicle was not listed as stolen. When an officer later arrived at the store, the vehicle was not on the scene and its whereabouts are unknown.
Jones was arrested and booked into the Escambia County Jail in Pensacola Nov. 11 and charged with one count each felony sexual assault of a minor, felony vehicle theft, felony larceny, and misdemeanor resisting officer and driving with no license. His bond was set at $83,000.
