Belden shows up at Flomaton police department for interview; police find meth in purse
A Flomaton woman who came to the Flomaton Police Department Nov. 9 to make a statement concerning an incident that happened the day before was charged with Domestic Violence II-criminal mischief on the original complaint and then charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance after officers found methamphetamine inside her purse while she was at the police department.
Kaylene A. Belden, 35, no address given, was arrested and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton. She was later given a $15,000 bond.
Flomaton Police Chief Chance Thompson said on Nov. 8 the police department received a call concerning a female who had caused damage to the property belonging to the victim.
Thompson said when officers arrived they discovered that two shots from either a .223-caliber rifle or a .556-caliber rifle had been fired from inside the residence causing damage to the inside and the roof.
Thompson said the victim identified Belden as a possible suspect and that she came to the police department the next day to make a statement.
She said during the interview with officers, Belden admitted to firing the rifle inside the home and she was charged with Domestic Violence II-criminal mischief.
Thompson said while officers were inventorying her personal property before transporting her to jail they found a white crystal-like substance in her purse that tested positive for meth. Belden was then charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
"This building is a drug-free place and we will not tolerate anyone bringing narcotics into the building," Thompson said.
