Three qualify to seek one commission seat
As of Tuesday there is only one contested local race in Escambia County (Ala.) with the deadline to qualify set at Feb. 28 for the May 24 primary elections.
Incumbent District 3 County Commissioner Scottie Stewart is being challenged by Billy Blair and former Commissioner Larry White in the Republican Primary.
The only people to qualify for the Republican Primary so far for local elections are incumbent Sheriff Heath Jackson and incumbent District 4 School Board Member Cindy Jackson and District 6 School Board Member Sherry Digmon.
Other local elections on the May 24 ballot will be County Commission District 1, currently held by Steven Dickey and County Commission seat District 5, held by Karean Reynolds.

Candidates seeking positions in the Alabama Legislature or judgeships must qualify through the Alabama Secretary of State's office.
Incumbent Circuit Judge Todd Stearns has qualified for the Republican Primary in February. State Rep. Alan Baker has also qualified re-election.
