Three challengers in school board, commission races, others unopposed; Golden qualifies for sheriff’s race
The deadline to qualify for the May 24 Democrat and Republican primary elections is 5 p.m. Friday and as of Wednesday morning there will be two contested races for the Republican nomination in Escambia County, Ala.
In the Republican race for county commission District 3 seat, incumbent Scottie Stewart, Billy Blair and Larry White have entered the race.
In the county school board District 4 Republican race, incumbent Cindy Jackson, John Brantley and Rachel Wagner have qualified.
As of Wednesday, Republicans without opposition are Steven Dickey, incumbent commissioner for District 1; Sherry Digmon, incumbent District 6 representative on the county school board; and incumbent Sheriff Heath Jackson.
Shaun Golden has qualified for the Democratic nomination for sheriff and as of Wednesday had no opposition. If both are unopposed in May, Jackson and Golden will face each other in the November General Election.
Incumbent District 5 Commissioner Karean Reynolds has also qualified for re-election in the Democratic Primary.
In state elections affecting Escambia County, District 66 State Rep. Alan Baker, District 22 State Sen. Greg Albritton, District Attorney Steve Billy and Circuit Judge Todd Stearns have qualified for re-election for the Republican Primary.
In the District 92 House of Representatives, which includes Escambia County, Matthew Hammett and Greg White have qualified for the Republican nomination. Mike Jones, who represented that district, is now seeking the District 31 state senate seat.
