Lopez arrested at courthouse

Issac Lopez, a former Flomaton police officer who was fired in December, 2020, after being arrested in Escambia County, Fla., for trafficking methamphetamine and charged in Alabama for using his position for personal gain, is back behind bars facing new misdemeanor charges and had his $200,000 bond in Alabama revoked.

Lopez, 37, was originally arrested Dec. 7, 2020, in Florida on the trafficking charge in Pensacola. He was released on $100,500 bond in Florida and then jailed at the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton and issued a $200,000 bond on the ethics violation.

The new charges stem from an incident that happened Dec. 25, 2021, when officials claim Lopez provided alcohol to a 13-year old child who got sick and was diagnosed with alcohol poisoning after an ambulance arrived at the Old Sardine Road residence.

Reports state that the child told first responders that through the night he had consumed vodka and got sick and went to the bathroom to throw up but never did.

An ambulance was called to the scene but the mother of the child, who had arrived, only wanted him checked out and not be transported to the hospital.

Misdemeanor warrants were obtained by the Flomaton Police Department charging Lopez with endangering the welfare of a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Lopez apparently showed up at the Escambia County Courthouse in Brewton Wednesday morning for a status hearing on his previous charge when he was placed under arrest and later transported to the detention center.

Court records show Lopez was originally arrested on Highway 29 in Molino on the meth trafficking charge. Records state at the time of his arrest he possessed 14 or more grams of meth.

Reports state Lopez had arranged a deal for 2 ounces of meth. Lopez apparently made the deal with an undercover officer with the Escambia County (Fla.) Sheriff's Office. He was arrested after receiving the meth from the undercover officer.
