Jay 16-year old is charged with homicide

Saturday, May 28, around 12:20 p.m., deputies with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's officer responded to a shooting at 3487 Highway 4 in Jay to discover a 43-year-old Jay man had been shot and killed by a 16-year-old.

Jaden Simmons, 16, has been arrested and charged with second degree homicide when it was determined he fatally shot Jonathan Simmons, 43. Sheriff's deputies would not confirm the victim was the father of the shooter, but other public sources say they were father and son.

The charges are preliminary and will be reviewed by the State Attorney's office. With the investigation ongoing, no more information was the released by the sheriff's office as of press time Wednesday.
