Lopez pleads on Alabama charge

Still faces meth trafficking charge in Florida

Former Flomaton Police Officer Issac Lopez pleaded guilty to felony ethics charges Monday in Escambia County (Ala.) Circuit Court and still faces felony charges of trafficking methamphetamine in Escambia County, Fla., and misdemeanor charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor in Flomaton Municipal Court.

Lopez was a Flomaton police officer when he was arrested in Pensacola on Dec. 7, 2020, for trafficking meth. He was immediately fired as a Flomaton police officer. Lopez was released from the Escambia County (Fla.) Jail on $100,500 bond. He was then charged in Escambia County (Ala.) on the ethics charges for using his office for personal gain. Lopez was accused of using a cell phone provided by the town of Flomaton to arrange deals to purchase meth in Pensacola and bring it back to the town of Flomaton. He was jailed on $200,000 on the ethics charge in Alabama and later released.

In December, 2021, Lopez was arrested by Flomaton police on the contributing to the delinquency of a minor charge for allegedly providing alcohol to a 13-year old and his $200,000 bond on the ethics charge was revoked. He has remained in the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton since the ethics charge was filed.

This Monday, Dec. 5, Lopez pleaded guilty to the ethics charges in Escambia County, Ala.

In an order signed by Circuit Judge Todd Stearns, the court withheld adjudication but reserves jurisdiction for Lopez's sentencing until March 1, 2023 on the ethics charge.

In Judge Stearns' order, if Lopez is released from jail in Brewton he is to immediately report to the state of Florida to take care of the trafficking case pending.
