Co-defender Walker also gets life for conspiracy to commit murder in the shooting death of Cory Moncrief
Just prior to seating a jury last Thursday for the capital murder trial of Jonathan Michael Taylor, Taylor pleaded guilty to murdering Cory Brian Moncrief on March 15, 2015.
Under the plea agreement, Taylor, 30, pleaded guilty to murder and burglary and was sentenced by Circuit Judge Jack Weaver to life in prison for the murder and 10 years for the burglary. The two sentences will run concurrently and Taylor will be eligible for parole.
Had Taylor been convicted of capital murder his two sentencing options would have been death or life in prison without the possibility of parole. Taylor has been held in the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton since his arrest on April 2, 2015, and he will receive credit for time served.
Taylor’s co-defendant Nadia Diane Walker, 33, who pleaded guilty March 14, 2022, to conspiracy to commit murder and agreed to testify against Taylor, was sentenced to life in prison Monday morning.
When Walker initially entered the guilty plea, Judge Weaver said he would wait to sentence her until after Taylor’s trial. Walker will also be eligible for parole.
Moncrief, 32, was found dead inside his East Brewton residence on Forrest Avenue, suffering from a gunshot wound to the back of the head.
Taylor who was apparently dating Walker, who was described as Moncrief’s ex-girlfriend, admitted to authorities that he had shot Moncrief.
