Increase will bring monthly bill to $28.62
The Jay Council Monday night approved to renew its garbage contract with Adam’s Sanitation that contains an adjustment to garbage rates pursuant to the franchise agreement, capped for Jay area customers at 4 percent, which will add $1.10 monthly to the standard residential customer’s monthly bill, to make it a total of $28.62, effective Jan. 1, 2023.
According to a letter Adams Sanitation sent to the town, the CPI (Consumer Price Index) indicator referenced in the franchise agreement increased by 4.42 percent and the fuel index increased by an incredible 77 percent. The twice weekly cost per month per residence will be $28.62. A second bin per month per residence will cost $5.41. Twice weekly low use customer per month, per residence will be $25.85.
“As you know, everything has gotten more expensive,” said Adam’s Sanitation representative Nathan Boyles. “Yall are fortunate with a good contract that locks liability to raise your rates. You’re capped at 4 percent in the contract and we are requesting that increase. I can assure that our cost has gone up more than 4 percent this year, but that’s ok. We are proud of our relationship up here. I hope we are taking good care of you.”
Councilwoman Jane Hayes made a motion to approve, which was seconded by Councilman Josh Holloway and the motion carried unanimously.
