Charges mount on a Century resident

Long is facing rape II and assault charges

Charges continue to mount against a Century man arrested on Jan. 10 in Atmore for two counts of attempted assault I, two counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling and two counts of reckless endangerment.

Emonee De'Montae Long, 20, 2262 East Sunset Drive, is also facing a rape charge from an incident in 2020 with Atmore police officers saying he wasn't arrested at the time of the rape charge due to his alleged involvement with a murder in Century at the same time.

The rape II charge stems from incidents that occurred between April and October, 2020 where Long, who was 16 at the time, is accused of engaging in sexual intercourse with a girl less than 16 but more than 12 with Long being at least two years older than the victim.

Atmore police stated that about 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 1,2023 and about 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 11, 2023, Atmore police responded to the area of Brooks Lane in reference to shots fired. Police said in both incidents a vehicle chased the victim in a vehicle while shooting a weapon.

Police said they were able to identify Long as the suspect.

On Jan. 14 an Atmore police officer recognized the vehicle Long had been using and initiated a traffic stop and took him into custody without incident. Police also noted evidence was recovered from Long's vehicle.

During a bond hearing Tuesday Long requested a court-appointed attorney and District Judge Eric Coale appointed Ben Brown to represent him and set his bond at $500,000.
