K-9 Boo leaves impact

Flomaton K-9 dies

Flomaton's K-9 Boo was rushed to an emergency veterinarian provider early Friday, Feb. 3, and had to be put down due to complications with cancer.

Police Chief Johnny Wilson said K-9 Officer Charles Land rushed Boo to the veterinarian about 5:30 a.m. due to sudden health complications.

Boo, who was a certified police officer with the town, has been with the Flomaton Police Department for two years with a successful record of narcotics seizures leading to the arrests of multiple suspects. Boo was also a trained tracking dog and had many successful tracks of not only suspects, but missing persons as well.

Chief Wilson told members of the Flomaton Town Council Monday he was in the process of looking for another dog and said the state is working to provide a dog free to the town and offering free training.

"I'll keep you posted," Chief Wilson told the council.

He added that Boo was cremated at no cost to the town and his remains will be shipped back to town to have a proper ceremony for the dog.
