McCall system wins first place in contest
A representative from the McCall Water System will be heading to Washington, D.C., in February to represent the system after McCall took first place in the Alabama Rural Water Association's contest for the best water in the state.
A panel of judges in Montgomery gave the McCall Water System the blue ribbon based on taste, clarity and odor over 19 other water systems during the rural water system conference held on March 21.
The McCall Water System will now represent the state of Alabama at the national conference in Washington for the national taste test.
"I'm excited but really had nothing to do with it," said Doug Welch, president of the McCall Water System Board. "Tony (Yuhasz, supervisor), Deborah (Arrant, office manager) and the other employees are more hands on and made this happen."
"We've got a great group in the office and in the field that work with us and do a great job," Welch added. "They do a great job and it's those people that made this happen."
The McCall Water System serves about 2,800 customers in that area to provide clean drinking water to its customers every day.
Welch said while it's a great honor to be recognized, providing the clean water to its customers is the top priority.
Lucas Douglas, McCall's water operator, was in Montgomery on March 21 to receive the award from Rob White, executive director of the Alabama Rural Water Association.
In addition to Arrant, Savanah Blackburn and Kasey Bossard work in the office.
Derek Raines, Zac Williams and Jason Wyatt join Yuhasz and Douglas in the field to provide quality drinking water.
