E. Brewton non-profit serves community

Anna Bell's Attic Ministries, Inc., (ABAM) located at 208 Schad Street in East Brewton, is serving the community on many levels.

"It is a joy and pleasure for our organization to serve the community," said Founder Hermastine Lancaster. "Our organization is God and Christ centered. It is operated by God's wisdom. So far, we have been running like a well-oiled machine."

The organization opened January 23, 2021, in honor of Lancaster's maternal grandmother, Anna Bell Quarker of Freemanville, Ala., near Atmore. Quarker was known in the Freemanville community to help others and was mother of 11 children. Just two months shy of 100 years of age when she died, Quarker exemplified the spirit of giving that ABAM strives to uphold.

The organization is an Outreach Ministry giving to those in the surrounding communities who have hardships or are in need and features a limited food pantry on the premises as well.

ABAM serves the community with projects such as giving sack lunches to a homeless soup kitchen in Pensacola and a children's home in Jay, Fla.

Senior citizens of the local area have received fruit baskets, Mother's Day and Father's Day gift baskets, Valentine's Day gift baskets and stocking stuffers for Christmas and the children of the community have received coats and toys and have been sponsored with shopping at a Walmart.

ABAM recently began offering house cleaning services for the elderly and disabled free of charge.

"We have been blessed to be a blessing," said Lancaster. "We have been graced with a great staff and just in that it is a blessing!"

ABAM has a goal of establishing a community resource center in East Brewton, providing the Outreach closet and food pantry on a larger scale to benefit more citizens.
