Cink tapped as new clerk-administrator

Set to replace Tony Sanks as Escambia's new clerk

Ron Cink, who has served as Baldwin County's budget manager and administrator for the past 17 years, will become Escambia County's new clerk-administrator on May 15, replacing Tony Sanks who is resigning the clerk-administrator position he's held for more than 28 years.

Sanks submitted his resignation to the Escambia County (Ala.) Commission in March with his last day scheduled for May 19.

Commission Chairman Raymond Wiggins told his fellow commissioners the county was fortunate to get someone with Cink's experience to take over the clerk-administrator job.

Cink, 63, currently lives in Fairhope but noted his wife and he will be moving to Brewton.

Cink said he knew Wiggins with the two working on the RC&D board and added that he and Sanks are close friends.

"I have a huge degree of respect for him," Cink said of Sanks.

Cink said he was tired of living on a four-lane highway and dealing with all the traffic and when he saw the opening in Escambia County he applied.

"We're small-town folks," he said. "I'm absolutely honored to be part of that team up there. I did tell Tony that he had to carry me around and introduce me to the people in the county.

"Tony has done a great job for the county and I plan on leaning on him when I take over," Cink said.

Brandon Smith made the motion Monday and Steven Dickey issued the second to hire Cink. The motion carried unanimously.
