Ecstasy leads to trip to county jail

A Flomaton man is facing a felony drug charge following a traffic stop in Pensacola and subsequent vehicle search last Thursday revealed the presence of Ecstasy pills.

Clifford Earl Williams, Jr., 36, 360 Martin Luther King Drive, was traveling west on Mobile Highway April 28 in an Acura when he was pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt, according to an Escambia County (Fla.) Sheriff's Office report.

The law enforcement officer also noticed a crack in the vehicle's front windshield right in front of the driver's view as well as the driver not wearing a seatbelt. When he made contact with the driver, identified as Williams, the deputy could smell the strong odor of marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle, the report said. He also observed residual amounts of a green leafy substance on the passenger's shirt and near the shifter of the vehicle. Williams seemed to be overly nervous to the point his hands, body and voice were trembling. He told the officer there was no marijuana in the vehicle, he did not possess a medical marijuana card and that he smokes marijuana.

When the officer asked Williams if he had anything illegal on him he became more nervous, the report noted. Williams allowed himself and the vehicle to be searched. The officer located a bag containing 11.3 grams of several multi-colored pills, that tested positive for Ecstasy. A search of the car revealed a black digital scale which contained marijuana residue in the passenger board. Williams stated they had been smoking marijuana prior to the stop, the report said.

A check of Williams' driver's license revealed it was suspended.

Williams was arrested and charged one count felony trafficking in methylenedioxymethamphetamine or MDMA ("Ecstasy") and a warning for the seatbelt violation. He was transported to the Escambia County Jail and given a bond of $50,000.
