Lee takes her seat at town council table

Flomaton taps Dr. Lee to fill the District 3 council seat position

Flomaton native Dr. Anna Lee took her seat at Flomaton Town Council Monday afternoon after the council voted unanimously to appoint her to the vacant District 3 position.

The District 3 seat became vacant when the council appointed Jim Johnson as mayor to fill out the unexpired term of Dewey Bondurant, Jr. At the last council meeting, the council declared the District 3 seat vacant.

During Monday afternoon's town council meeting Mayor Johnson recommended that Dr. Lee fill his old District 3 seat. Councilwoman Kay Wagner made the motion, Councilwoman Lillian Dean issued the second and the council approved the appointment.

Prior to taking her seat at the council table, Circuit Judge Jeff White issued the oath of office to Dr. Lee.

Lee, 49, is a native of Flomaton and a graduate of T.R. Miller High School. She also has a daughter attending Flomaton Elementary School and she currently serves as an emergency room doctor at Atmore Community Hospital.

Dr. Lee said she wanted to give back to a community that had been so good to her.

"I've been involved with the schools and I want to see Flomaton prosper," she said. "I was just a little nervous to just run for the seat but once I saw it was open I put my name in the hat."

"I want to give back to the community," Dr. Lee said. "This is a better opportunity to help where I can."

She said she wants to see changes in Flomaton and applauded the efforts to bring downtown back.

Mayor Johnson said he recommended Dr. Lee because she showed an interest in the position.

"She lives here, has children in the schools, is invested in the community, has been involved in school activities and I felt she would be a good choice," Mayor Johnson said.

In addition to naming Dr. Lee to the District 3 council seat, the council also unanimously approved Mayor Johnson's recommendation to name Councilman Roger Adkinson at the mayor pro tem of the council.
