Accused of fatal shooting June 19 in Pace
Three Atmore men have been arrested on murder charges for the June 19 shooting death of Joseph R. Liebe, 24, in Pace.
Marcus Terel Dickinson, 29, 7400 Jack Spring Road, Ja'Cobey Quartise James, 20, 568 Atmosphere Road, and Ty'Jerrious Keon Malone, 20, Freemanville Road, were arrested and charged with murder.
All three were arrested in Atmore. James and Dickinson waived extradition and were transported to the Santa Rosa County Jail where they are being held without bond. Malone was arrested Tuesday and was scheduled to appear before Escambia County District Judge Eric Coale to see whether or not he will also waive extradition.
According to reports released by the Santa Rosa County (Fla.) Sheriff's Department, on June 19 deputies were dispatched about 6:30 p.m. to North Wallace Lake Road just north of Quintette Road in reference to a shooting.
Reports state that when deputies arrived they discovered a crashed vehicle just off the roadway on Wallace Lake Road in the wood line. Deputies said they identified what they felt were bullet holes in the vehicle. The driver, later identified as Liebe was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies reported searching the area and found 10 spent .9mm shell casings and the scene was locked down and secured.
Reports noted that witnesses observed a maroon Chevrolet Tahoe fleeing the scene after hearing gunshots and the Tahoe had an Alabama license plate.
Using surveillance video near the scene of the shooting, deputies reported at 6:20 p.m. the victim's vehicle was observed passing by and being immediately followed by a maroon Tahoe. Reports note that 1 minute after the shooting, the Tahoe is observed going in the opposite direction in the direction toward Escambia County, Fla.
Santa Rosa County then requested the Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff's Office to respond to an address in Atmore where they believed the Tahoe was headed.
At 7:58 p.m. that day, Dickinson contacted the Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff's Office to make a report of a stolen .9mm handgun. Dickinson told Alabama deputies he had the gun earlier in the day and had gone to Pensacola to work.
On June 20 a search warrant was issued for 7400 Jack Springs Road. Santa Rosa reports state deputies interviewed Dickinson, who waived his Miranda rights, and Dickinson said he and James were driving from work in Pensacola when they stopped at a gas station in Cantonment. Dickinson said he went into the gas station and left James in the vehicle. Dickinson told deputies when he returned to the Tahoe he was instructed by James to follow the victim's vehicle.
Dickinson told deputies that James had access to the gun all day. In a heavily redacted report, Dickinson said he did not believe James knew the victim and didn't know why they believed he had money.
