Argument escalates July 3 with gun fired
A Flomaton man was charged with multiple misdemeanor charges following an argument at his residence where his accused of discharging a .40-caliber pistol at least four times.
Robert Long, 46, 1735 College St., was charged with disorderly conduct, obstructing governmental operations, reckless endangerment and discharging a weapon inside town limits. He was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton and later released.
According to Flomaton police, neighbors reported hearing an argument and hearing multiple gunshots about 8:50 p.m. Monday, July 3.
When police arrived, Long was standing in the front yard with a pistol stuck in his pants and officers discovered four spent shell casings.
Flomaton Police Chief Dane NeSmith said Long was very uncooperative and refused to explain what had happened. Long claimed he was on sovereign property and did not have to cooperate with the police, telling officers to get off his property. His mother also told police it was family business.
The first officer on the scene called for backup. When officers told Long he was under arrest he reached for his handgun and a scuffle began as officers got the gun away from him and placed him under arrest.
Chief NeSmith said it appears nobody was shot and the person Long was allegedly shooting at had left the scene. NeSmith also noted it appeared Long was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
