Atmore man shot, killed in a vehicle

Police seek help to identify the shooter

The Atmore Police Department is seeking the public’s help to identity the person or persons who shot and killed a 22-year old Atmore man Tuesday afternoon.

According to reports from the Atmore Police Department, officers were dispatched to a two-car motor vehicle crash about 5:05 p.m. July 25 at the intersection of Brooks Lane and King Street.

When officers arrived they discovered one of the drivers was unresponsive due to suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim, identified as Jatyrain Aquamini Tolbert, 22. Tolbert was transported from the scene to Atmore Community Hospital and later declared dead.

Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks said the police department’s criminal investigation unit was dispatched to the area prior to the crash in reference to gunshots heard from a nearby residence. He added investigators are currently working on the case and no arrests had been made as of press time Wednesday.
