Man attacked after hitting pedestrian dies at the hospital

Atmore police is continuing its investigation

Kenneth Harrison, 45, of Silverhill, Ala., who was attacked and beaten outside The Tavern on Highway 31 in Atmore after running over and killing Hannah Martin, 24, of Poarch on Aug. 5 has died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the assault.

Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks said Wednesday that no charges had been filed in the attack on Harrison, stating the case is still under investigation.

According to original reports from the Atmore Police Department, police were dispatched to the The Tavern about 11:50 p.m. on Aug. 5 in reference to a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle. When officers arrived they discovered Martin had severe injuries and performed CPR. She was transported to Atmore Community Hospital and later pronounced dead.

Martin had parked across Highway 31 and was walking toward The Tavern when she was hit by the vehicle driven by Harrison. Police said Harrison stopped and exited his vehicle and was attacked by an unknown number of people in the parking lot of The Tavern.

Police found Harrison with severe injuries and transported him to a trauma center in critical condition.

Chief Brooks confirmed late last Wednesday that Harrison had died.
