Brought gun to Flomaton-Northview game
Prior to Friday night's opening kick in Flomaton between the Hurricanes and visitors from Northview, police took a 13-year old juvenile into custody for possessing a .9mm pistol inside the stadium.
Police were notified of a possible gun by someone who told police he overheard someone talking about possessing a gun and he was about to shoot up the place and fire some rounds.
Police said there was a group of four or five juveniles and they approached the group and began asking if anyone had a gun. A search revealed the semi-automatic pistol in the waistband of the 13-year old who was wearing two pairs of pants.
Police took the juvenile into custody and called his parents, who told the police they wanted to talk to a lawyer. The juvenile, who was not a Flomaton student, was turned over to juvenile authorities. The other juveniles in the group were escorted outside the stadium and all were issued trespassing warnings not to return to the Flomaton campus.
Police also reported the gun seized from the 13-year old was reported stolen in 2021 from a stolen vehicle in Columbus, Ohio.
Flomaton High School Principal Mark Harbison praised the quick response from law enforcement.
"We always have officers on campus and have constant security at football games," Harbison said. "The police did their jobs and we will continue to keep the campus safe."
