Charges mounting on Atmore woman

Attempts to flee after traffic stop in Atmore

A traffic stop in Atmore for an expired tag and improper lights led to multiple charges after the suspect attempted to flee police on foot after being pulled over.

Annie Deloris Frye, 52, 208 Park Drive, Atmore, was arrested Oct. 13 and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (crack cocaine), obstruction of justice by giving a false name, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, attempting to elude, driving while license was revoked, improper lights and having an expired tag.

According to reports from the Atmore Police Department, about 10:25 p.m. Friday an officer initiated the traffic stop on Martin Luther King Drive for the expired tag and improper lights. The officer reported he detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

When the officer made contact with Frye, he reported she gave him a false name (Jiesha L. McNeal).

The officer asked Frye to exit the vehicle in order to conduct a probable cause search due to the marijuana odor from the vehicle. The officer reported he discovered a glass pipe, commonly used to ingest narcotics, that contained a white granular substance that field tested positive for cocaine.

After police officers began searching Frye's vehicle they reported she ran from the scene into a wooded area and was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.

Upon learning Frye's true identity, officers discovered she had three outstanding arrest warrants from the Atmore Police Department for driving with a suspended license, improper lights and operating a vehicle with an expired tag.

She was arrested and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton and bond was later set at $20,000.
